“She is blessed with a gift of making music gloriously on the piano … a perpetual wonder” (The Washington Post). “A pianist’s pianist” (The New Yorker) MDLO announces an exclusive engagement: Pianist Cecile Licad. Born in The Philippines, Cecile Licad was only 12 when she was admitted to the Curtis Institute in Philadelphia. Since then Ms. Licad has appeared throughout the world, with orchestras such as the Chicago Symphony, Boston Symphony, New York Philharmonic, Philadelphia Orchestra, National Symphony Orchestra, London Symphony and London Philharmonic and many others, in collaboration with such conductors as Kurt Masur, Zubin Mehta, André Previn, Michael Tilson Thomas, as well as Claudio Abbado, Sir Georg Solti, Eugene Ormandy, and Mstislav Rostropovich. Cecile Licad joins MDLO Orchestra in a performance of Brahms’ intensely emotional Piano Concerto No. 1. The program, conducted by Music Director Louis Salemno, also includes Bartók’s dazzling Concerto for Orchestra and Gershwin’s iconic, jazzy An American in Paris.
