Visit WebsiteDr. Heltzer has extensive experience in glaucoma surgery and management, and is a Washington-area leader in several innovative laser surgery techniques. He is an accomplished cataract surgeon as well, specializing in small incision surgery with the latest toric and multifocal artificial lenses.
In 2010, he was a national spokesperson for the American Academy of Ophthalmology's Glaucoma Awareness Month. He currently serves as a clinical correspondent for the Academy and was selected for its Leadership Development Program. Locally, Dr. Heltzer recently served as president of the Washington DC Metropolitan Ophthalmology Society and continues to serve on the society's Executive Board.
Dr. Heltzer is a surgical and clinical instructor for residents and medical students at the Georgetown University/Washington Hospital Center Ophthalmology program, and is a reviewer for the journal Ophthalmology. Dr. Heltzer has co-authored chapters and sections in several texts including Becker-Shaffer's Diagnosis and Therapy of the Glaucomas and The Ophthalmology Review Handbook. He has been recognized by his peers as a Washingtonian Top Doctor and nationally among America's Top Ophthalmologists for both glaucoma and cataract surgery.
