A couple of concerts and a controversial author

Doomtree, a rap crew and record label, mixes hip-hop with the sounds of punk and other musical influences. The group is performing tonight at the U Street Music Hall at 7. Tickets ($15) are available here.

Jose Gonzalez, a well-known solo act, also fronts a rock band called Junip. That band is performing with Lost in the Trees at the Black Cat at 8. Tickets ($15) are available here. And for a post-holiday treat, check out the Cat’s Indian-music dance night Friday, November 26, with proceeds benefiting victims of the floods in Pakistan. 9 PM.

Orson Scott Card, the author behind the beloved and controversial young-adult book Ender’s Game, is discussing his latest novel, Pathfinder, at Borders in Baileys Crossroads. Afterward, he’ll sign copies of his books. 7:30; free.
