MONDAY, MAY 4

STRIKE A POSE: DC Yoga Week runs through May 9, allowing you go to the mat without busting your budget. Contact one of dozens of participating yoga studios (Mind the Mat, Yoga District, and Tranquil Spaces are among them) to reserve a spot in a free or reduced-rate class. And that’s something to feel zen about. Various times, free.

TUESDAY, MAY 5

BOOK IT: The first Tuesday of the month means Book of the Month day at the National Building Museum. Perfect for kids ages three to five, expect a story time with a kid-friendly building theme. Stick around afterwards to hang out in the Great Hall (for running and stretching limbs) or the Building Zone (for open play). 10:30 and 11:30 AM, $3.

EXPLORE CULTURE: Celebrate Asian Pacific American Heritage Month at the Discovery Theater with “Tigers, Dragons, and Other Wise ‘Tails,’” a stage performance for five to ten-year-olds that re-imagines three Asian folk tales—The Boy and the Fly (Vietnam), The Wise Mole (Japan), and The Tiger, the Thief and the Dried Persimmon (Korea). 11:30 AM to 12:15 PM, $5.

WEDNESDAY, MAY 6

BUG OUT: Not for the insect-shy, preschool kids will meet at Grove Nature Center to learn about bug behavior and get an up-close look at ants. Mini entomologists (and their grown-up) should come dressed ready to explore outdoors.10 to 10:45 AM, $5.

THURSDAY, MAY 7

BARRE WITH BEBE: Exercising with a new baby in tow can be tough. Xtend Barre makes things a little simpler with their Babies on Board class, which they are offering for free to first-timers during the month of May. With baby securely strapped into their carrier, you’ll strengthen, lengthen and chisel your body. Various times, free.

SEEK AND FIND: Show your little one the ways of Chewbacca at this East Columbia Branch library Star Wars-themed scavenger hunt, where families work together to follow clues and search for Star Wars characters. May the force be with you.
