Great Takeout: Nickell’s & Scheffler

This cheerful eatery/carryout is the place to find fresh, light meals inspired by local, seasonal ingredients. Warm crab cakes ($9.75) with nicely crisped edges and roasted-red-pepper dipping sauce are a highlight. Fruit salad ($8.50 a pound) gets a punch from mint and lime zest. Farfalle with roasted corn, zucchini, and eggplant and fresh basil, thyme, and parsley ($8 a pound)—when in season—is a delicious way to get your veggie quota for the day. Surprise the kids (or yourself) with a perfect strawberry cupcake ($2.25), with strawberry purée in both the cake and the cream-cheese icing.
