Want to get a bit of exercise and help the environment? Instead of driving to work, how about you participate in Bike To Work Day?
Bike To Work Day, which takes place Friday, May 18, is all about celebrating bicycling as a healthy and environmentally conscious way to get to work (and other places, of course, though I can't say I recommend it as a method of getting to and from your favorite weekend bar).
The Washington Area Bicyclist Association is hosting the all-day event, which offers pit stops along the way, a chance to win a mountain bike, and free t-shirts for registered participants. More details are over at the organization's web site.
Don't have a bike at your disposal? Bike the Sites is offering free rentals for Bike to Work Day participants who need a bike. Contact Bike the Sites at their web site or (202) 842-BIKE to reserve your ride. You can pick it up today from 5 pm to 7 pm either from their downtown location (at The Old Post Office Pavilion) or the Bike the Sites Oasis in Rossyln.
