Monday: A Work Week Happy Hour
Heading into happy hour hungry after work? The downtown Chef Geoff’s, three blocks from the White House, is the place to go. The $5 burgers are served with a heaping helping of shoestring fries. And the beer? Oh, Lord, the beer. The dark-wood-paneled bar tosses out this heavenly thing called a Supermug: 34 ounces of beer for $7.95 from an excellent array of beers on tap. If you’re less thirsty, long-necked beers (I usually go for the Shiner) are $2.95.
Tuesday: Shakespeare's Twelfth Night
Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night —December 2 through January 4—stars great comic actors: Veanne Cox, Floyd King, and Nancy Robinette. Rebecca Bayla Taichman, who directed The Taming of the Shrew, is at the helm. For tickets ($20 to $79.75), call 202-547-1122 or visit shakespearetheatre.org. 7:30 PM.
Wednesday: Running of the Santas
Put on your best Santa hat, warm up your lungs, and get ready for the annual Christmas Light Run, starting at Union Station. Folks in their best Santa gear go on a 4-5 mile run around DC, singing Christmas carols and checking out Christmas light displays all the while. The best part? Everyone meets up at Union Pub afterwards for a beer. 7:30; meet the group in front of the main entrance of Union Station.
Thursday: Take an Ice Skating Date
If you like nothing better this time of year than tying on a pair of skates and gliding through a winter wonderland—or cutting figure eights in a bustling indoor rink with the music blasting—then this is the list for you. We've got the guide to local indoor and outdoor rinks.
