Last week, we told you about an essay contest being run by the Presidential Inaugural Committee (PIC) to win tickets to the inauguration. We've just received word that one of ten lucky winners has been selected.
According to an email sent to Obama supporters, Cynthia Russell from from Newberry, Florida, has been selected to attend several inaugural events, including the welcome ceremony on January 18, Obama's swearing-in, the inaugural parade, and the Neighborhood Inaugural Ball.
Here's a snippet from Russell's winning essay, answering the question, "What does this inauguration mean to you?":
"I'm a single woman who has been building homes for over 18 years. I've supported myself and have been able to help out my mother from time to time. Now I find myself wondering how much longer I can hold on and be able to pay my bills and keep the doors open for business. Barack gives me hope. Hope that 2009 will truly bring change to Americans who find themselves in this mess with me."
There's still time to enter the contest for a chance to win. The deadline is this Thursday, January 8. The PIC is asking for a $5 donation to enter, but you can enter without making a donation here.
