Great Bars 2013: BLT Steak

You don’t have to spring for a fancy steak dinner to enjoy the
scene at this downtown DC power-player magnet. Head to the bar to try
classic cocktails made by chatty drink mixers Steve Oshana and Rico Wisner
while snacking on bites such as the braised-short-rib grilled cheese; it’s
hearty enough to stand up to Oshana’s Brooklyn cocktail—made with rye
whiskey aged in an oak barrel behind the bar. Insider tip: While the
emphasis is on simple, steakhouse-friendly drinks, the bartenders are
happy to mix up something more elaborate or esoteric. Just ask. Open
Monday through Saturday.

Happy Hour: The 5@5 menu—Monday through Friday from 5 to 6:30 at this
downtown DC power spot—features $5 steakhouse snacks (broiled oysters,
tenderloin skewers), blood-orange martinis, and selected beers and
wines.
