After the Sweetlife Festival evolved within the space of a year from a cozy event held in a Dupont Circle parking lot to a mammoth, star-studded Merriweather Post Pavilion event headlined by the Strokes and Girl Talk, we were extra curious about what it would offer up in 2012. Pyrotechnics? A petting zoo with lions and tigers? Madonna?

The sustainable salad chain today announced the lineup for Sweetlife 2012, which’ll return to Merriweather on April 28. And while there are no Strokes-esque surprises, the festival has snagged Swedish house deejay Avicii as a headliner, along with hip-hop artist Kid Cudi, indie darlings the Shins, Austin-based rock band Explosions in the SkyFitz and the TantrumsFun, and ASAP Rocky on the mainstage.

This year’s festival also includes a second stage for emerging artists, and sustainable and organic food options will be offered, with partners including Shake Shack, Serious Eats, Roberta’s Pizza, and Smucker Farms. Tickets (prices TBA) will available through Ticketfly and at the 9:30 Club and Merriweather box offices starting at 10 AM on Friday, March 9, and a portion of the proceeds goes to DC Central Kitchen. Like last year, VIP tickets are available, which offer a number of perks (free filtered water! cabana lounges! food by Rogue 24’s R.J. Cooper!) and special seating areas. A presale code is available if you “like” the Sweetlife Festival Facebook page; a limited number of presale tickets will be available through Ticketfly starting at noon on Thursday, March 8. For more information, visit the festival’s website, and see our writeup and pictures from last year’s Sweetlife Festival here.
