From June to August, the American Farmland Trust ran a contest to decide the best farmers markets in the United States. Approximately 800 markets entered the contest and were divided into three categories—small, medium, and large. Winners were decided by customers who voted on the AFT Web site, and the results were released last week. Washington made a strong showing: Smart Markets at Mason in Fairfax, Crossroads Farmers Market in Takoma Park, and the Bloomingdale Farmers Market in Northeast DC were in the top 20 for the “small” category. On your way to the beach, check out the Historic Lewes Farmers Market and the Rehoboth Beach Farmers Market—they were in the top 20 in the “medium” category.
Now that we’re in the middle of the best month for produce (peaches! tomatoes! basil!), we want to know your favorite farmers market—and within that, any farmers and purveyors you really love. Let us know in the comments.
