To Do: Brainfood Grill-Off

Next Thursday evening, local teens get a taste of Iron Chef-style competition at the Hotel Monaco (700 F Street, NW). At the first annual Brainfood Grill-Off, guests can watch the showdown while listening to live entertainment and nibbling on lobster medallions, tuna tartare, crabcakes and more. All proceeds support Brainfood, a nonprofit that uses food and cooking to teach life skills and healthy living to teenagers from DC high schools.

Students in Brainfood’s after-school program will each team up with a restaurant chef for the battle—participants include Bryan Moscatello of Indigo Landing and Zola and Michael Harr of Butterfield 9. The Food Network’s Marc Silverstein will serve as Master of Ceremonies, providing commentary as each chef-teen pair prepares two different dishes using, naturally, a secret ingredient. Reps from the restaurant industry—including the general manager of Jaleo, an executive VP of Clyde’s, and an owner of Matchbox—will make up the judging panel.

Tickets are $75 and going quickly. Reserve them at brain-food.org or 202-667-5515 before 5 PM on Monday, June 25.
