Monday, January 12
Risotto tastes great, but it’s a hard dish to get exactly right. Practice your skills tonight with Robert Donna’s risotto class at Bebo Trattoria (2250 Crystal Dr., Arlington). Tuesday, January 13

Ready to start celebrating for the inauguration? The Museum of the American Cocktail presents “President and Political Libations in American History” at Rock Creek at Mazza (5300 Wisconsin Ave., NW). The event kicks off at 6:30 with a discussion of George Washington’s rye distillery and touches on cocktails throughout American history, including the Ward 8, the Rickey, the Bronx Cocktail, the Daiquiri, and Navy Grog. Wednesday, January 14
Train your nose with GiraMondo Wine Adventures’ beginners class, “The Ultimate Sensory Experience.” Taste six wines while discussing the origins of wine flavors, aroma categorization, and how to recognize the different aromas. Cheese will be available during the tasting as palate cleansers, and appetizers will be served afterward. Thursday, January 15

Sample some of Argentina’s great wines with Taste DC’s “Argentina: the Next Napa?” Wine specialist Fletcher Henderson will lead the tasting of six to eight wines, which includes a Malbec. Friday, January 16, and Saturday, January 17

The Chesapeake Alliance for Sustainable Agriculture hosts its tenth annual Conference of Future Harvest. This year’s theme is “Connect Locally: Food, Farms, and Communities.” On Friday, seminars, panels, and roundtable discussions will cover agritourism, soil fertility, farm-to-school programs, and raising healthy food. Saturday’s workshops will cover the basics of sustainable agriculture, specialty crops, grass-based systems, profitable grain production, and market gardening. Meals served will showcase the region’s local food options. The event, which costs $40 per person, will be held at the Holiday Inn (5400 Holiday Dr., Frederick). Sunday, January 18

La Cuisine (323 Cameron St., Alexandria) presents “The Wonderful World of Chocolate Ganache” with dessert specialist Phyllis Farzam. The hands-on class will cover how to make a poured ganache tart as well as miniature cakes, confections from poured ganache, and truffles. The class starts at 2 and costs $125.
