Each Peach Market, a long-planned neighborhood shop, has opened its doors at 3068
Mount Pleasant Street, Northwest. Owners
Jeanlouise Conaway and
Emily Friedberg have stocked the grocery with croissants from Frenchie’s Artisan Pastries and Desserts,
baguettes from Panorama in Arlington, Half Sours from Number 1 Sons, fresh produce
and dairy products from local farms, meats from Cured DC, and so forth. The owners
will also offer premade sandwiches and other prepared foods, including hummus, beet, corn, and kale salads, cold cucumber-coconut
soup, and gazpacho.

Conaway and Friedberg will host a grand opening event on Sunday, September 15, from
10 to 6, at which vendors will pass out samples of their goods. Here is the schedule:
From 10 to noon, you’ll find goods from Vigilante Coffee Company and Frenchie’s; from
noon to 2, there will be treats from 2Armadillos Company, Double Premium Confections, and Sisu Kind Foods; Capital Kombucha, Runningbyrd Tea, and Cured DC will be there
from 2 to 4; Whisked DC will be around from 2:30 to 4:30; and Number 1 Sons and Ice
Cream Jubilee will be sampling from 3:30 to 5:30.

Each Peach plans to begin selling beer and wine as soon as possible—depending on how
permits go, sales could start as early as the end of September or as late as December.
Stay tuned.

Small neighborhood markets selling gourmet goods have been proliferating around the
city. Seasonal Pantry in Shaw and Cork Market were among the first of the new crop; then came Smucker Farms on 14th Street, Northwest, Pleasant Pops Farmhouse Market & Cafe in Adams Morgan, and Glen’s Garden Market in Dupont Circle. Next up: Little Red Fox, a coffee shop and grocery that is taking
over the former home of Marvelous Market in Chevy Chase. In Dupont Circle, Brit-themed Duke’s Grocery opens on Tuesday, September 10.
