I vote for Flippin’ Pizza (even though everyone knows Chicago pizza beats NY pizza any day!).
It’s HARD to find good pizza in DC. Next time include Emilio’s in Sterling, VA!

I was born in the Bronx and grew up on Long Island, my brother lives in Falls Church and we found Flippin Pizza through one of their flyers. What a great surprise! This is the best pizza since I can remember "real pizza" growing up!! I have lived all over the place (S.F., Miami, New York, Brasil) This Pizza Rocks!! Don’t miss it!

The Flippin’ Pizza in Reston is really good, though, but not as good as Faccia Luna or Luciano’s.

How were the bracket seedings created? It seems, IMO, that a lot of similar pizzas are playing each other in early rounds. I don’t know if that’s on purpose.
Like, Pizza Paradisio and 2 Amy’s, are playing each other early. So are Vace & Italian Store, and Matchbox & Ella’s.
I wonder if that’s so, if one "style" is preferred, that we don’t have a finals of very similiar styles. Like 2 amy’s a paradisio.
Comet Pingpong and Petesapizza are the only 2 new haven style places, and they could match up in the finals.

Cafe Pizzaiolo in CC is amazing. Not only is the pizza incredible, but so is the atmosphere. The other location in Alexandria, Pizzaiolo Cafe and Bar is pretty rocking too. I would put it up there with NY pizza. MMMM

I have been to many of the places in this competition and I have to say that Pete’s is the most unique, best selection by far, and the ingredients...organic...locally grown. I am sorry to sound a bit offensive but no one else on this list has any of this type of stuff. I am sorry, but I am quite embarrassed by a lot of these other places and saying that I am from this city with these pizza joints. At least I was until Pete’s arrived. I have had pizza in New Haven, NYC, Rome, Florence, Venice, Chicago. Yes, they are all different. The fact to the matter is Pete’s just seems to put more care into it than the other dc related pizza restaurants. And yes, I did say embarrassed.

Dude, hasn’t anyone ever heard of Pizzaiolo Cafe and Bar in Alexandria?? The NY style pizza is excellent with the most flavorful crust! Try the White Pizza-it’s my favorite! Their sister store Cafe Pizzaiolo in Crystal City on 23rd St. has the same menu. Both places are great for families.

Why do I keep seeing people talk about New York, Virginia, Maryland, etc. You’re all missing the point: Washington DC. Common sense dictates that every city has different pizza/food. So get out there (Washington DC) and start eating some pizza and stop thinking about these other cities. For the Record, Pete’s New Haven Pizza is absolutely amazing! The Edge of the Woods with eggplant on top and Down the Hill are to die for! They have my votes.

I love Pizza more than anyone I know. The true measure of a pizza is hard to quantify. There are so many different types. I could write a book on Pizza. The three major categories would have to be NY, Chicago and brick oven (which is what came from Napoli). Then there are types of pizza that most people don’t even know about (tomato pie and white pizza are two examples).
So many things to consider. For me it’s mostly about the sausage. A true pizza topping. It can make or break you. How good the home made sausage is at a pizza place speaks volumes about how their pizza is usually.
I won’t poo poo the pizza in DC but I will say that I was surprised by some of the pizza I tasted when I got here that the shops were still in business. Growing up in NY I thought all pizza tasted great until I started to travel. I’ve had to search the area for the best tasting pizza and when we indulge I’m not afraid to drive a bit to get really good tasting pizza.
You have all the big players in your bracket but you are missing a few.
Mamma Lucia in Bethesda
Lucia’s Italian Ristorante in Reston
Panne Bella Pizza (several locations)
Delia Pizza in Springfield

@Joe - Hi there, thanks for the comment. There’s no other reason other than it’s a 100 Best restaurant, and, we think, delivers some truly excellent pizza. Offering a gift certificate from Pete’s in no way pre-judges the outcome of the contest. That’s solely up to the readers who vote!

Don Corleone’s Brick Oven Pizzeria in Sterling, VA is great!

Pete’s!! Many good pies, but I LOVE the arugala pizza. Never had anything like it.

I grew up in NY and have to say the best pizza in the area is Vace for DC or Italian Store for VA. I have spend significant time living in Europe and pizza from Italy is incredibly different from the pizza you get in NY so there are different types of "good" pizza depending upon what you prefer!
Yum!

I was disappointed in the August issue of the Washingtonian. Del Walters should have just contacted the National Enquirer to submit his story. The article was shallow, self serving and we didn’t need to know any of it.

How can you have a pizza pool that doesn’t include Oro Pomodoro in Rockville? Your site doesn’t even include a review for the restaurant and they are the BEST, authentic Neapolitan pizza in town. Send someone out there to see what you are missing! http://www.oropomodoro.com/

Italian Store in Arlington! By far the best pizza! Ledo’s?... How can generic chain stores even be in the running?

Number one is Ledo Pizza ( by far ) and number two is Grotto, number three is Bertucci.

May the best Pizza win!

@beth - we’re not requiring you compare any specific pie against another. Just overall pizza awesomeness.

are you comparing plain cheese or margherita so the comparison is fair? cannot really compare different toppings against one another since they can affect the pie.

Why is the prize a gift certificate to one of the restaurants in the pool? Can other places sponsor things of this nature?
