Masa 14 Names Its Chef

The Asian/Latin fusion restaurant Masa 14—slated to open on the newly hot 14th Street, Northwest, corridor in September—is a collaboration between Kaz Sushi Bistro chef/owner Kaz Okochi and national restaurateur Richard Sandoval (Zengo, La Sandia). But don’t expect to see either of them regularly manning the open kitchen and executing the all-small-plates menu. That job is going to Antonio Burrell, most recently chef de cuisine at CommonWealth in DC’s Columbia Heights. Before that, Burrell served as executive chef at Clarendon’s Eleventh Street Lounge and the now-closed Viridian. He spent six years as executive sous chef at Vidalia and Bistro Bis under Jeff Buben. Sounds like he’ll have some long hours: The restaurant plans to serve dinner until 2 AM Sunday through Thursday and until 3 Friday and Saturday, along with weekend brunch.
