The Hot Ticket: Your Guide to Events on Sale

Here’s your Hot Ticket, a weekly guide appearing every Tuesday to let you know which concerts are going on sale in the days ahead. Read on for this week’s goodies. And don’t forget our own hot ticket—our ticket giveaway for The Shins show.

Spoon, the Austin-based band that plays rousing, stripped-down rock, will be at Sonar in Baltimore April 16. I think the concert will be worth the trip—when I saw them at the 9:30 Club last year, their performance was charismatic, energetic—and sold out. So jump on tickets for this show, which have just gone on sale today for only $17.50. LISTEN: “I Turn My Camera On”

Lily Allen, the angelic-looking British songbird with the mouth of a pirate who fuses pop, ska, and rock sensibilities, is a huge hit both overseas and in America. Her last appearance at the 9:30 Club sold out, and the crowd dug her performance—though I have to admit I found it a little lackluster. If you missed that show, she’s gracing the DC area with her presence again Sunday, April 8. $25 will get you in, and tickets are on sale now.  LISTEN: “Smile

Design freaks will want to be sure to see the Corcoran exhibit “Modernism: Designing a New World 1914-1939.” The show, organized by the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, explores how modernism shaped art and design in the first half of the 20th century. Tickets, at $14, are on sale now for the run of the show, which is March 17 to July 29.

I really believe that if the Beatles were a) playing today and b) Canadian, they’d be reincarnated as Sloan. These poppy musicians have been around for more than a decade but are still churning out some of the catchiest, most melodic, and, in my opinion, most underrated music out there. They’re at the Black Cat May 13, and tickets go on sale for $14 this Friday at 10 am. LISTEN: "Money City Maniacs."
