Swedish design, social justice, and a new style of gospel music

The Historical Society of Washington is hosting “Choosing to Participate: Facing History and Ourselves,” an exhibit that examines the impact of injustice on contemporary America through photography and stories of individuals and groups who spoke out. There’s an opening reception from 5:30 to 8:30 with wine and hors d’oeuvres. Free.

Take a sneak peek at the Embassy of Sweden’s spring exhibit, “Fabric of Life,” presented in conjunction with the Corcoran Gallery of Art. Nina Jobs, one of the artists represented, discusses how cutting-edge design meets form and function. 7 to 9; free. RSVP to rsvp-hos@foreign.ministry.se.

The Futurebirds, a psychedelic gospel group out of Georgia, is playing at the Black Cat. The six guys combine choral-style singing and guitars to create their sound. Buy tickets ($10) at Ticket Alternative. 9 PM.
