Warm your tummy as the temperature tumbles, raise a glass to seasonal brews, and learn to make artful holiday cookies and cocktails.

Monday, December 14

When the temperature drops, it’s time to stir up some warm soups and stews. Head  to the “Warming Soups and Stews for Winter” cooking class at Open Kitchen (7115 Leesburg Pike, #107, Falls Church), taught by Robynn Webb from 7 to 10. The class costs $75 per person. Tuesday, December 15

It’s tough to down eggnog on an empty stomach. Learn to pair the yuletide drink with some sweet sidekicks at a Christmas-cookie class at Zola Wine & Kitchen (505 Ninth St., NW). Chef Bryan Moscatello and his culinary crew will instruct students how to make traditional treats with added flair. The class, $50 per person, runs from 6:30 to 8:30. Wednesday, December 16

Whether you’re the kind of person who marks your calendar by which seasonal microbrew is on tap or you’re just looking to sample some regional brews, head to the 20th annual Winter Holidaze Extravatanzee at the Brickskeller. For $35, elbow-raising enthusiasts can meet area brewers and sample seasonal varieties from Dogfish Head, Sweetwater Tavern, Rock Bottom, and Capitol City breweries, among others. Thursday, December 17

Play hooky from work and indulge a bit before noon as Rock Bottom Brewery in Bethesda (7900 Norfolk Ave.) taps its kegs of Atom Smasher holiday brew at 11. This aged, barley-wine-style ale will be served in 11-ounce glasses for $10 until its four-keg supply runs dry.

Friday, December 18

Slip inside former Galileo chef Roberto Donna’s house in McLean as he leads a hands-on class on Italian pasta and meat dishes from Florence and Rome at 7:30. Saturday, December 19

For just $10, you can check out the Holiday Mixology Class sponsored by Punk’s Backyard Grill (2188 Annapolis Mall). The hourlong class starts at 2 and offers instruction on how to concoct the perfect homemade winter cocktail. Light hors d’oeuvres will also be served. For more information, call 410-571-7744.

Sunday, December 20

Help celebrate the opening of Cork wine bar’s new business by heading to Cork Market & Tasting Room (1805 14th St., NW) between 3 and 6 to meet co-owners Khalid Pitts and Diane Gross and enjoy a free tasting of selected holiday sparklers. The upscale bodega sells charcuterie and cheese, Old World wines, and goodies served at their nearby restaurant.
