The Capital Grille (601 Pennsylvania Ave., NW; 1861 International Dr., McLean) is celebrating the US debut of Tuscan winemaker Castello Banfi’s 2005 Belnero Sangiovese di Montalcino with a five-course Italian dinner. The menu, which will be available for the next six weeks, includes creamy porcini-mushroom soup with chive oil; roasted swordfish with white wine, roasted tomatoes, olives, and capers; herb-marinated tenderloin with garlic, roasted tomatoes, red peppers, and cipollini onions; and black truffle mac and cheese. Looking for a little sunshine? Clarendon’s Restaurant 3 (2950 Clarendon Blvd., Arlington) presents “California Wines to Warm a Cold Winter’s Night.” Wine expert Jim Whittaker will lead guests through a tasting of six wines, and chef Brian Robinson will send out a selection of hors d’oeuvres. Old Town’s Restaurant Eve (110 S. Pitt St., Alexandria) is holding a seven-course wine dinner featuring 14 wines with vintages dating back to 1985. Friday, February 27

Giramondo Wines hosts an introduction to the wines of France at the Sofitel Lafayette Square (806 15th St., NW). Participants will learn about the climates, soils, grapes, and wine styles of Champagne, Alsace, the Loire, Burgundy, Bordeaux, Rhône, and Southern France. Friday, February 27, through Sunday, March 1
The second annual Virginia Wine Expo happens this weekend at the Greater Richmond Convention Center (403 N. Third St., Richmond). The event features 50 Virginia wineries and samples of more than 300 Virginia wines as well as wine seminars, food, and cooking demonstrations. The event runs from 4 to 10 on Friday, noon to 7 on Saturday, and 11 to 6 on Sunday. A Saturday-and-Sunday tasting pass costs $60, and an all-access tasting pass is $289.
