The Wrap-Up: The Week in Food

Every Friday we fill you in on what's happening on the local restaurant scene.

BlackSalt’s main man at the fish counter, the affable, ever-knowledgable Scott Weinstein, is leaving his post after five years. No word yet on where Weinstein will land, but we’re glad to hear he plans to stick around town.

• Following this week’s Top Chef debut, Metrocurean has a list of the Washington-area contestants’ five favorite dishes. Volt chef Bryan Voltaggio is a fan of Good Stuff Eatery burgers as well as pizza from Urbana and Mangia e Bevi. Zaytinya’s Mike Isabella goes for roast-pork-and-preserved-egg congee at Full Kee and a red-velvet cupcake from Georgetown Cupcake.

• Will we see a new farmers market outside the White House? President Obama says it could happen.

• DC’s Summer Restaurant Week—when many restaurants offer $20.09 three-course lunches and $35.09 three-course dinners—kicks off on Monday. Still need to make a res or two? Check out our menu guide here and food-and-wine editor Todd Kliman’s picks here.
