The Pizza Pool Finalists! RedRocks Pizzeria vs. Flippin’ Pizza

The Pizza Pool has reached the finals! Vote now to make sure your favorite wins.

UPDATE: This poll is now closed. Flippin' Pizza won! We will have a follow-up post about the Pizza Pool soon!

Well, folks, here we are. The Pizza Pool finals. When we first started the Pizza Pool back yonder (as in, late July), despite our experiences with the Burger Brackets, we still held on to certain preconceived notions about who would advance and even win. Pizzeria Paradiso? Surely. Comet Ping Pong? Without a doubt. 2 Amys? Naturally!

But, once again, our expectations were bested by loyal fans of pizza joints all over the greater metropolitan area. And as of Wednesday, the Pizza Pool came down to a Columbia Heights showdown between Pete's New Haven Apizza and RedRocks, and a face-off between Gallery Place spot Ella's and national chain Flippin' Pizza.

And now? We have our finalists! Check below to read about them, and to cast your vote. We'll be keeping this vote open extra-long (until noon on Thursday, September 10) so you have plenty of time to spread the word far and wide.

RedRocks Pizzeria: This Columbia Heights pizzeria's Neapolitan-style pies are cooked at 750 to 900 degrees in a wood-burning, dome-shaped brick oven. Toppings—such as San Marzano tomatoes, arugula, capers, buffalo mozzarella, and Sicilian oregano—keep with the Italian vibe.

Flippin' Pizza: Although this chain was born in California, it was started by a Queens native, and the hand-tossed pies recall Broadway: You have to fold the crust to make a slice manageable.

This poll will stay open until noon on Thursday, September 10.

*To help keep this contest fair, we’ve elected to use an IP address-based poll. This means that if you are voting from an office or network setting, not everybody will be able to vote. We apologize for the inconvenience, but we hope you’ll encourage coworkers to vote from their home computers.
