Run With the Doctor Running Group Launches in Virginia

Ask Dr. Lonnie Davis anything and everything about running and sports—while getting in a workout.

It can be a pain trying to schedule an appointment with your doctor. But a physician in Northern Virginia is making it easier for patients to see him—if you don’t mind running a few miles in the process.

Saturday, August 10, marks the launch of Run With the Doctor, the Center for Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine’s new program that allows anyone to join orthopaedic surgeon Dr. Lonnie Davis on Saturday morning runs as he trains for the Marine Corps Marathon. Runners are encouraged to use the time to ask Davis any and every question they might have about health, sports medicine, and running.

“The concept was that as physicians, we treat athletes on a daily basis. We thought it’d be an interesting forum to connect with athletes on the trail,” says Davis, a former collegiate football player and track and field athlete. The Marine Corps Marathon will be his third marathon.

Anyone is welcome to join Davis, who stresses that you don’t have to be training for a marathon. “This is more of an opportunity to mix things up in terms of the normal rigors of training for a marathon,” he says. Expect different paces and mileage options. Walkers can join, too.

The runs are free and are held every other Saturday at 7 AM now through October. Each run starts at one of the Center for Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine’s three office locations.

August 10 and 24, and October 19
Tysons Corner/Vienna: 8230 Boone Blvd., Tysons Corner

September 7 and 21
Reston/Herndon: 108 Elden St., Herndon

October 5
Falls Church/Merrifield: 2841 Hartland Rd., Falls Church

That's something we should never miss, its a great start for the beginners and those who lack in motivating themselves for such fitness programs. It's advisable to participate not only to get fit butalso to make sure you are motivated to continue it for ever.

What a great opportunity, especially for those who are just beginners/walkers! It's hard to find great help at no cost!
