The region itself may be fraught, but it’s not, fortunately, a touchy matter of geopolitics to declare your devotion to kibbe, baba ghanoush, the rich bean stew known as foole, and harira, a fragrant broth of tomato and lentils. Save room for the Lebanese confections near the register—particularly the namoura, a rich semolina-and-coconut pastry.

But it is a "touchy matter of geopolitics" to call a well known Palestinian restaurant an Israeli one. Shows that the writers of the have no idea where they are going when eating at ethnic establishments. I'm pretty sure that not one Israeli has ventured into this restaurants. The restaurant's clientele are predominantly arab muslims who have just finished their Friday prayers at the masjid nearby. Also to be clear - Jerusalem has been occupied by Israel since 1968 so you are making a very controversial statement by classifying a restaurant named Jerusalem Israeli when it is owned by Palestinians.

This is hilarious. This is a Palestinian restaurant owned by Palestinians. How exactly did you decide its Israeli?

  • Najat

This restaurant is owned by a Palestinian and is a very popular among the Arab/ Muslim Americans in the DC metro..It is an insult to associate it with Israel

  • JS_Nova

It’s inaccurate — counterproductively so — to describe Jerusalem Restaurant as a place that serves Israeli cuisine. The establishment is Palestinian-owned. This classification would understandably anger people on both sides of this “touchy matter of geopolitics.”
