Dirt Cheap Eats 2009: Tonic

Tucked into a Mount Pleasant brownstone, this hangout dishes up the kind of food you’d expect from a convivial neighborhood tavern. Head to the basement bar with dark wood and exposed brick and dig into the meaty wings ($9.50), which come in varying intensities of heat.

We’re also partial to burgers (half price weekdays between 5 and 7) such as the Black-n-Bleu ($10.50), which drips melted blue cheese and caramelized onions and comes with a side of crispy tater tots. Even more bang for your buck: Tuesday nights, tacos are 50 cents each (minimum of six).

Open Monday through Friday for dinner, Saturday and Sunday for brunch and dinner.
