Cheap Eats 2010: Pupatella

100 places that offer great food at low prices.

Why go: In the three years since Anastasiya Laufenberg and Enzo Algarme started crisping Neapolitan-style pizzas in their fire-engine-red truck, Washington’s street-food scene has grown. But their pies, made with San Marzano tomatoes and imported mozzarella, remain some of the best fare to come out of a cart.

What to get: Pizzas, such as the spare Margherita (worth the $3 upgrade for Italian bufala mozzarella); a spicy-sausage sandwich with melted Muenster and sautéed peppers and onions; arancini—fried risotto balls—and doughnuts.

Best for: An al fresco lunch—a bench-filled park is right behind the cart.

Insider tip:
If even a few people are ahead of you in line, be prepared to wait. A sit-down restaurant is coming this summer at 5100 Wilson Boulevard in Clarendon.
