New York, New York

There’s a lot to do near the Kimberly Hotel—it’s close to Grand Central Terminal, Rockefeller Center, and all that Midtown shopping, and it’s not far from attractions such as Times Square and the Museum of Modern Art.

Now a special deal gives guests more time to explore the city. The Kimberly’s We Hate to See You Go package lets visitors extend a weekend stay by reserving a room for Sunday night at 50 percent off the Saturday rate. Weekend rates, which vary by season, range from $265 to $405 for a standard room, $305 to $485 for a suite. The special is available year-round except July and August.

The package also includes a three-hour cruise on the hotel’s 75-foot yacht—offering views of the Statue of Liberty and city skyline—plus use of the New York Health & Racquet Club and a $10 credit per person a day to on-site Ferro’s Restaurant.

Head for the Mountains

Wintergreen Resort in the Blue Ridge Mountains is an easy drive and a fun place for families and nature lovers.

Now the resort offers a variety of well-priced “add-on” packages that allow each family member to enjoy a different activity, from golf to tennis to the spa.

The Mountain Masters Golf Package includes one round of golf at either course—mountaintop Devils Knob or Stoney Creek in the valley—breakfast, a $20 golf-merchandise voucher, and rental equipment, for $95 to $115 a person on top of the room rate. A Junior Golfer Package for ages 5 to 16, which includes one round of golf and breakfast, is $45.

As a bonus, the golf packages include extra rounds for free on weekdays, $25 on Saturdays and Sundays.

Resort guests can also hike, swim, even go tubing on the James River. Young kids head to the Treehouse for activities like crafts and scavenger hunts; older kids love the Adventure Dome, with its pool tables, Xbox 360s, and Wiis.

Special for Readers

The Homestead resort, in the mountains of Virginia, offers three very good golf courses, a spa, tennis, indoor and outdoor swimming, shooting, horseback riding, and more.

And now it is offering an exclusive deal for readers of The Washingtonian.

The Legendary Tee for Two Golf Package includes accommodations for two, a round of golf each day per person on the Lower Cascades or the Old Course, breakfast and dinner daily, use of the driving range, one sleeve of Titleist golf balls per person, and an upgrade to the next room type (based on availability).

The weekend rate in May and June starts at $741, in July and August at $898—a savings of 30 percent off the regular package rate. Weekday rates are less. There’s an $85 surcharge to play the resort’s third course, the Cascades.

Almost Heaven

The Resort at Glade Springs, in the Allegheny Mountains of West Virginia, is also offering a good deal this summer.

A Family Value Package that includes deluxe accommodations, breakfast, and dinner starts at $156 a person a night. The rate is based on double occupancy, but up to two children under age 17 can stay and eat for free when they share the same room as the adults.

Included in that rate is use of the indoor and outdoor pools and fitness center, indoor basketball, weekend bonfires, hiking, movies, and indoor and outdoor tennis. Golf, spa treatments, horseback riding, and activities like whitewater rafting cost extra.

Family Fun

There’s a lot to do at Kingsmill Resort & Spa, including golf, a spa, and a marina. But one reason many families choose this Williamsburg resort is because of the attractions surrounding it. Colonial Williamsburg is just five minutes away.

The resort’s Family Vacation Package exploits its location: Along with three nights of lodging and breakfast daily, the package includes unlimited admission and free transportation to Busch Gardens and Water Country USA and one lunch or dinner per person at Busch Gardens. The package, available May 9 through September 2, also includes greens fees on Kingsmill’s Plantation Course after 2 pm daily (a cart fee of around $30 a person is extra) and use of the tennis courts after 11 am.

The package starts at $999 for a family of four. Just a room and breakfast for four, for three nights, normally costs about $900.
