How hard is it to find a ticket to the Capitals’ game-seven battle against the Penguins tonight? Yesterday, Alex Ovechkin told reporters at the team’s Arlington practice facility that even he was having trouble: “Right now, I try to order box for my family, and you can’t find it, so probably everything’s sold out.”
Well, not everything. As of 9 this morning, there were 279 tickets ranging from $187 to $802 at Tickets Now, the official site for Caps tickets. While prices in the low $200s will land you in the nosebleeds, the most expensive section is 120, where, for $487 to $802, you can get up close and personal with the Capitals offense and Penguins goalie Marc-Andre Fleury for a period or two.
There a few better deals on StubHub, where prices start at $143, but they inflate for the best seating. The preferred seats in row LL section 108 are going for $4,500. There certainly seems to be no shortage of supply, as scalping sites such as Ticketzoom, Ticketcity, Ticketliquidator, Ticketstumblr, and Onlineseats all have plenty of tickets to sell.
However, you might be better off finding a Caps fan on Craigslist with an extra ticket. This morning, we found four tickets for $130 apiece, by far the cheapest available. Just make sure you double-check what you’re purchasing—people are already selling tickets for the next round and the finals.
How much will you pay to watch the Caps try to continue the team’s longest playoff run since the 1998 Stanley Cup finals? Are the prices worth the value? If you’re saving up for Redskins tickets, a team that can’t get past the Seattle Seahawks in the playoffs, you might want to rethink the move and put aside the burgundy until the fall. It’s time to Rock the Red.
