City of Love?

How Washington stacks up in online dating, attractiveness, and more

Virginia’s Caressa Cameron became Miss America but couldn’t lift the state into the “most attractive” top ten.

Some singles lament the dating scene here—too many busy schedules, too many career-oriented people. So how does Washington stack up against other cities in that department? It turns out this may be among the nation’s best areas to meet someone special.

According to three months of Match.com data from this summer, the region was fifth nationwide in the use of online dating:

1. Miami

2. New York City

3. Los Angeles

4. Chicago

5. Washington

6. Dallas

7. San Diego

8. Phoenix

9. Boston

10. Houston

Using numbers from People’s “Man Alive” issues, beauty-pageant performances, and health-and-fitness statistics along with other data, the Web site The Daily Beast ranked states and the District by most attractive citizens per capita:

1. DC

2. Hawaii

3. California

4. Connecticuit

5. Florida

6. New York

7. Massachusetts

16. Maryland

18. Virginia

Last year, Forbes compiled a list of the ten best cities for singles in terms of job growth, the cost of living alone, culture, nightlife, and “coolness,” among other things:

1. New York City

2. Boston

3. Chicago

4. Seattle

5. DC

6. Atlanta

7. San Francisco

8. Los Angeles

9. Milwaukee

10. Philadelphia
