The men and women of Congress have a lot of opportunities most Americans don’t. They can shape America’s policies. They meet foreign heads of state. They get regular exposure on C-SPAN. But just because they have those awesome opportunities doesn’t mean that they don’t geek out like the rest of us. Peter Roskam likes Lost. Ted Poe likes people who like people who like him. Jason Chaffetz is a member of Team Coco. In addition, it seems as though every member of Congress we follow on Twitter turned out to tweet his or her support of the United States Marine Corps—which celebrated its 235th birthday this week—and to profess deep appreciation of those who serve on Veterans Day.
Representative Peter Roskam: @PeterRoskam In korea keeping an eye out for Jin and Sun. They might have cleared out of Seoul and headed to the Island to avoid the G20. #lost
[Scottish accent] You’ll be waitin’ a long time, brotha.
Senator Chuck Grassley: @ChuckGrassley Noon at Sheldon Kiwanis Usual q&a. High School students fr Hull Western Christian came. They voleybal players stTourny
Either there’s some kind of code here or Senator Grassley is just tweeting too hard.
Representative Ted Poe: @JudgeTedPoe Become a “fan” on my official Facebook Fan Page and join in on the conversation. Your voice is important: http://on.fb.me/99ICjG #tcot
So people should become fans of your fans?
Representative Chris Lee: @chrislee_ny26 Visiting DC this holiday season? Give my office a call if you’re planning on visiting some of the popular sites
Can I just shoot you a text?
Representative Jim Himes: @jahimes Big thanks to my constituents who voted 53-47 to keep me representing them. My commitment to work hard for them is renewed and repowered. So Connecticut’s fourth district has only 100 residents. And why is it taking you a week to report return results? When’s the victory party? February?
Representative Lynn Jenkins: @RepLynnJenkins RT @ksadjutantgen: I posted 7 photos on Facebook in the album “Presentation to Congresswoman Lynn Jenkins” http://fb.me/NEYMUDaG
This photo sort of speaks for itself.
Representative Tom Price: @RepTomPrice The lame duck session should not be used to enact the last ditch dreams of a majority that was resoundingly rejected by the voters last week
Nothing says “resoundingly rejected by the voters” like maintaining control of the Senate. Oh, wait. . . .
Representative Jason Chaffetz: @jasoninthehouse So glad Conan is back on the air @teamcoco
A few days late, but I’m sure Conan will take it.
Representative John Boehner: @GOPLeader Happy 235th Birthday, @USMC
Interesting that the USMC started running marathons at age 200, is it not?
Representative Rob Wittman: @RobWittman @Happy 235th Birthday to the United States . Thank you to all for your service and sacrifice. Semper Fi!
Whoops! See what happens when you don’t proofread?
Representative Lee Terry: @LEETERRYNE The Few, the Proud. Happy 235th to the Marines! Thank you for your service and sacrifice. There’s the new slogan: The Few, The Proud, The Happy.
And finally . . .
Senator Dick Lugar: @senatorlugar Today, Americans honor the service of those who have given of themselves in defense of our nation throughout history. #veteransday
Representative Ted Poe: @JudgeTedPoe Thank you to the men and women who served and continue to serve this great nation. Freedom is not free. #veteransday
