Get an early start on Hanukkah tonight when Trio Sefardi brings song from Jewish Sephardic communities to the Kennedy Center’s Millennium Stage at 6.

Tuesday, November 30
Though probably most famous for his Esquire piece “Frank Sinatra Has a Cold,” Gay Talese has also contributed to the canon of great sports journalism. Talese is discussing and signing his book, The Silent Season of a Hero: The Sports Writing of Gay Talese, at Politics and Prose at 7.

Wednesday, December 1
Kirk Savage knows quite a bit about Washington’s monuments. In fact, the chair of the University of Pittsburgh art-history department actually wrote a book on the subject. Savage is discussing his research along with the evolution of Washington’s memorial landscape at the American Art Museum. 4 PM.

Thursday, December 2
The Library of Congress screens the 1950 noir classic Sunset Boulevard at its Packard Campus this evening. Call 202-707-9994 for reservations. 7:30.

Friday, December 3
Humor and the Holocaust are words that seldom occupy the same sentence. British filmmaker Rex Bloomstein, however, has spent a career analyzing how Jews responded to disaster with laughter. Bloomstein is showing clips of his various films and leads a discussion today at the Library of Congress’s Mary Pickford Theater. Noon.

Saturday, December 4
Country music takes over the Library of Congress this weekend as acts such as Little Big Town, Bob DiPiero, Brett James, and Lori McKenna take the stage at the Coolidge Auditorium. Tickets are free but must be reserved here. 8 PM.

Sunday, December 5
It’s an off day between games, which means the Washington Capitals are taking the ice at the Kettler Capitals Iceplex (627 N. Glebe Rd., Arlington; 571-224-0555) for an open practice. Bundle up and see the hard work that’s built Washington’s hockey dynasty. 10:30 AM.
