Tweet Beat: Heat-Addled Edition

Members of Congress trickled back to Washington this week after a July 4 recess, but it seems like most politicos are still mentally checked out—the Congressional Twitterverse has been relatively quiet over the last few days. Maybe this oppressive DC heat (tempered by flash flood warnings) is getting to everyone. But the Beat goes on: John Cornyn is smug about Texas, Gabrielle Giffords complains about the weather, Jim Himes makes fun of stoners, and the ever-prolific tweeters at the Senate_GOPs account give followers a play-by-play of financial regulation.
