The new year means new jobs for these local lawyers and powerbrokers.

John Engler, a former three-term Michigan governor, is leaving his post as president and CEO of the National Association of Manufacturers to become president of Business Roundtable, an association of chief executive officers of US companies. Engler will begin his new role January 15.

John Dugan, who served as comptroller of the currency until earlier this year, will rejoin Covington & Burling as a partner. Dugan will lead the firm’s financial-institutions group.

SNR Denton welcomed Casey Sixkiller as a senior adviser in the firm’s Indian-law-and-tribal-representation practice. Sixkiller, who helped establish the Cherokee Nation’s Washington office, will also remain president of his firm, Sixkiller Consulting.

Piper Nieters Su has joined DLA Piper as of counsel in the firm’s health-care, public-policy, and regulatory group. She previously practiced at Patton Boggs.
