Friday, April 1
Crystal City 5K Fridays are back. Starting tonight and continuing every Friday in April at 6:30 PM, runners will tackle a course through downtown Crystal City. The races start and finish at 2121 Crystal Drive. Afterward, area restaurants will offer dinner specials, and there will be a post-race party, "Flash After Dash" at the Flash Gallery (2450 Crystal Dr., Arlington) with a photography show and a free drink for runners. Register ($15 per race or $50 for all five) at the Pacers Web site. Runners must register by noon on the Friday of the race.

Saturday, April 2
Support Wolf Trap during the fourth annual Run for the Arts 5K. The race starts at 9 AM and finishes with a celebration at Ovations Restaurant, including a petting zoo and backstage tours. During the scenic run through the park, enjoy music by the George Mason Pep Band and Drum Line and the Shenandoah University Pep Band. Register ($30) at the Wolf Trap site.

The Cherry Blossom Health and Fitness Expo at the National Building Museum takes place from 9:30 to 5:15. Expect booths from apparel manufacturers and running clubs, info about other major races, plus all the cherry-blossom-logo gear you could want.

Sunday, April 3
Even if you weren’t lucky enough to get a spot to run, take part in today’s Cherry Blossom Ten Mile Run by volunteering. Volunteers are guaranteed entry to the 2012 race. Register plus see the schedule and a list of jobs here.

Wednesday, April 6
Head to Potomac River Running’s Cleveland Park store (3513 Connecticut Ave., NW) for the New Balance Fun Run. A brand representative will be on hand to let runners try out New Balance shoes (the Minimus Trail and Road and the 890 models). All running paces are welcome. 6:30 to 7:30 PM; free.

Online registration for the April 9 Strasburg Duathlon ends today. Celebrate the 250th anniversary of Strasburg, Virginia, by running (two 5K legs) and biking (30K) through the picturesque Shenandoah Valley, alongside the river and Civil War battlefields. Registration is $60 through April 1 or $70 after, including the day of the event. The race starts at 9 AM.

Thursday, April 7
It’s Ladies’ Night at Potomac River Running in Leesburg (1601 Village Market Blvd., SE). There will be apparel experts from Running Skirts plus plenty of wine, cheese, and dessert. There will also be goodie bags, raffles, and discounts on purchases made during the event. 7:30 PM; RSVP at the store’s Web site. Free.
