Fight Ends Georgetown Basketball Exhibition in China (Video)

A bench-clearing brawl ends Hoya exhibition in Beijing

An overseas exhibition tour for the Georgetown Hoyas men’s basketball team took a dramatic turn earlier today when an all-out brawl erupted during their game in Beijing against the Bayi Rockets of the Chinese Basketball Association. As you can see from the video below, some rough play in the backcourt eventually leads to pushing and shoving, which quickly escalates into a bench-clearing brawl involving punches and chair throwing.

Georgetown coach John Thompson III quickly pulled his team off the court when order was restored and released this statement after the game:

“Tonight, two great teams played a very competitive game that unfortunately ended after heated exchanges with both teams. We sincerely regret that this situation occurred.

We remain grateful for the opportunity our student-athletes are having to engage in a sport they love here in China, while strengthening their understanding of a nation we respect and admire at Georgetown University.”

According to a Georgetown spokesman, no one was injured during the melee. The teams are scheduled to play again on Saturday but officials have not yet confirmed if that game will take place.
