Barry’s Bumper: Yesterday’s most tweeted local story (and accompanying photograph) was Marion Barry’s dragging bumper. It seems his Jaguar was hit by a stolen car a few weeks ago and his insurance refused to pay for the damages. So he had a local mechanic reattach the bumper with screws. Obviously, that solution didn’t work out very well.
Hawk ‘n’ Dove Sold: Xavier Cervera, who also owns the Chesapeake Room, Molly Malone’s, and others, is the new owner of the Hawk ‘n’ Dove bar on Capitol Hill. Cevera will close the bar in October and reopen it approximately six months later after a “100 percent renovation.” The new space will feature a 50-foot bar, 25 beers on tap and 16 wines by the glass.
Angelou Angered: Maya Angelou is none too happy with the misquote inscribed in stone at the MLK Memorial. “The quote makes Dr. Martin Luther King look like an arrogant twit,” she told the Washington Post. Officials say they were forced to paraphrase the quote due to space restrictions.
Hannah Arrested at White House: Actress Daryl Hannah was arrested at the White House yesterday as part of a protest against the Keystone XL oil pipeline. As many as 100 other people were arrested in the protest.
Strasmus in September: Stephen Strasburg will make his return to the Washington Nationals rotation on September 6 when the Nats face the Los Angeles Dodgers. Get your tickets now.
Say What? DCist reports Miracle Hands, an HIV/AIDS nonprofit used some of their one to help build a strip club called Stadium Club. Understandably, the city is not amused and is taking legal action.
