Strasmas in September: Nats phenom Stephen Strasburg made his return to the majors last night, throwing 56 pitches over five innings, allowing two hits, and ringing up four strike outs. Not many people were there to see it, though. Inclement weather definitely played a part, but it also stands to reason that some may have stayed home after seeing this tweet from the Washington Post that (incorrectly) reported that Strasburg would be scratched and his return would be pushed back to today. Caught On Video: Disturbing video has surfaced that shows a Metrobus driver forcibly removing a passenger from his bus and literally throwing him off the vehicle. Metro called the driver’s actions “completely inappropriate” and are launching an investigation. Unfortunately they have no idea who the driver is and are hoping whoever shot the video will come forward to help identify the driver.
Rhee And Johnson Marry: This sure flew under the radar. Former DC schools chancellor Michelle Rhee married Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson over the weekend in a private ceremony in Tennessee.
New Speed Cameras: Get ready for more speed cameras on District roads. The Metropolitan Police Department announced 19 new cameras yesterday, concentrated in areas that feature the highest number of crashes and injuries. For now, violators will get off with a warning, but real tickets will be issued beginning on October 1.
Briefly Noted:The Atlantic’s Richard Florida named H Street, Northeast, one of his “10 great places to explore urban neighborhoods” in an article featured in USA Today. . . . MetroWeekly reports that Apex, the gay nightclub that shuttered suddenly in July, will reopen as Phase 1, a lesbian nightclub.
