As summer nears an end, it’s time to get ready for
back-to-school—or at least back to a more tailored fall wardrobe. You can
prep for the season with these great August deals; mention The
Washingtonian
to get the special rate.

Prolong That Summer Tan

Stay beautifully bronzed all year with Whole Glow, a mobile
tanning salon that uses the same organic, streak-free products beloved by
celebrities such as Jessica Alba and Paris Hilton. The safe, sunless spray
tan lasts seven to ten days. Owner Katie DePaola will come to your home
with a tan tent, or you can visit her Dupont Circle salon. She also hosts
group tanning sessions, normally $60 a person. In August, get a discount
of 15 percent on groups of up to three ($51 each) or 20 percent on four or
more ($45 each). Mobile services incur a $10 service fee and a $1-a-mile
fee each way per group.

Deck Out a Dorm Room

When Karen Zuckerman, a Washington mom who is also president
and executive creative director of a design and marketing firm, couldn’t
find chic, affordable designs for her daughter’s dorm room, Dormify was
born. This month, readers can take 15 percent off all products, including
duvets, sheets, wall prints, desk items, and Greek gear for sorority and
fraternity members. Sale items are excluded; use the code
“Washingtonian.”

Shop for a New Wardrobe

Take control of your closet and your image with the help of
Monica Barnett, president of Washington-based Blueprint for Style. Clients
receive three hours of in-person wardrobe consultation and one hour of
virtual assistance via phone, text, or Skype. The service is normally
$575, but readers who sign up by October 31 pay $425.

Denim Darlings

Colored denim is all the rage, so why not start the school year
with an exclusive offer from two of National Harbor’s newest stores, Blink
Blanko and Angst. This month, take 20 percent off colored denim at either
shop. Both boutiques are the brainchild of Rick Sarmiento, founder of
White House/Black Market. Angst is geared more to teenagers, while Blink
Blanco is for an older shopper.

Get Tutored

Does your child need extra help in math, science, or SAT prep?
Peer2Peer offers one-on-one home tutoring sessions in all school subjects
as well as music, college-application essays, even sports and other
extracurricular activities. You can pick a tutor not just by subject area
but also by interest, gender, and similar experiences—for example, a tutor
who went to a certain school or had a particular teacher. Tutoring starts
at $45 an hour; any package of services is 20 percent off during August
when you book online using the code “Washingtonian.”
