Uber, the popular on-demand car service, may still face a battle in the DC City Council to secure its future in the nation’s capital, but it has scored a high profile victory for the upcoming Republican and Democratic presidential nominating conventions. Uber has teamed up with the National Journal to provide “discounted transportation” to National Journal’s many events at both conventions. The cars will also pack complimentary copies of National Journal publications.
The Republican National Convention begins August 27 in Tampa. The Democratic Convention begins September 3 in Charlotte. Both run for four days. According to the announcement from National Journal, Uber customers will get $20 off their first ride using special promotion codes: NJRNC in Tampa and NJDNC in Charlotte.
The DC City Council, acting on protests from the DC Taxicab Commission, ended the summer legislative session unable to come to an agreement on whether Uber should have to comply with certain pricing rules. They plan to revisit the issue in January.
