Dog Adoption Fees at Washington Shelters

Here’s what you’ll pay to adopt dogs at area shelters.

Animal Welfare League of Arlington

$175 for puppies four months and younger; $150 for dogs four months to eight years
old; $75 for dogs eight years and older. Fees include an exam with a participating
veterinarian, spay or neuter surgery, a heartworm test, vaccinations, a personalized
ID tag, microchipping, and a phone consultation or training discount from Fur-Get
Me Not trainers.

Fairfax County Animal Shelter

$170 spay or neuter surgery fee for all dogs plus $40 adoption fee.

Montgomery County Humane Society

$175 for all dogs, including spay or neuter surgery. Additional services such as vaccines
and flea treatments are included in the package.

SPCA/Humane Society of Prince George’s County

Adoption events are held at area pet-supply stores three times a month. Fee is $180
for all dogs, including spay or neuter surgery, vaccines, deworming, and microchipping.

Washington Animal Rescue League

$300 for puppies younger than four months, which includes $50 puppy kindergarten;
$250 for puppies five to six months and for purebred dogs; $200 for mixed-breed dogs
older than six months; $150 for pit bulls, pit-bull mixes, and dogs seven years and
older. A $17 licensing fee is added for dogs going to homes in the District.
