A Washingtonian and Author Is Named Board Chair of Men Can Stop Rape

Rosalind Wiseman, a Washington native and author of the book
Queen Bees and Wannabes, which was the basis for movie
Mean Girls, has been elected board chair of the nonprofit violence prevention group Men Can
Stop Rape.

“At Men Can Stop Rape, a strong focus of our work is engaging and educating you on
core principles like the importance of respect, gender equality, and healthy, nonviolent
masculinity as ways to prevent violence before it occurs,” says the group’s executive
director,
Neil Irvin. He says Wiseman’s “talents, along with her deep understanding of youth culture and
social issues make her an excellent candidate for this position.”

In 2002 Wiseman published the nonfiction
Queen Bees and Wannabes: Helping Your Daughter Survive Cliques, Gossip, Boyfriends,
and Other Realities of Adolescence. It was based in part on her time running a nonprofit that worked with students from all over the District, and was a bestseller.* Two years later it emerged as the comedy movie starring
and written by Tina Fey and including Lindsay Lohan, Rachel McAdams, Amanda Seyfried,
and Lizzy Caplan in the cast.

Men Can Stop Rape has its offices on K Street in downtown Washington.
