Snow Day Specials Around Washington

All-day happy hour, spiked hot drinks, and more.

We’re far from a snowpocalypse, but the government is closed and flakes are flying (for now). The best way to maximize the day: eating and drinking until the sun reappears. We’ll update the list of restaurant and bar specials throughout the day, as well as closures if the weather worsens.


Al Dente
Sit at the bar or bar-top tables and get half-price pizza all day.

The Argonaut
The H Street spot opens at noon. Kids eat free from noon to 3, and taco Tuesday starts at 4 with $2 and $3 tacos.

Spike Mendelsohn’s all-day $10 special includes French onion soup and a glass of wine.

Black Squirrel
This Adams Morgan brew bar will open early at noon. It’s a great tomato soup and grilled cheese combo day.

BLT Steak
Hit the bar for half-price ($6) dark and stormy ciders and Hennessy “hotties” (hot toddies made with Earl Grey-infused Hennessy).

Buffalo & Bergen
Union Market is open today, and Gina Chersevani is pouring $2 bourbon-spiked hot ciders at her spot.

All day specials include $5 vanilla porters, hot toddies, Irish coffees, and bloodies. Bud Lights, Shock Tops, and Bullfeather Amber go for $3.

Cafe Saint-Ex
Extended happy hour begins at 2, plus $5 bourbon ciders and $2 off burgers.

Casa Luca
All day happy hour at the bar. Pass the Negronis!

Cashions Eat Place
Mention you’re in for the snow day special in the bar or dining room and get half-price items from the “starters” and “for the table” sections, half-price glasses of wine, $4 Schlafly Christmas Ale, and a $5 sparkling cocktail. 

Get your mulled wine fix for $8.

Cork Market
You’ll find “snow closure” hot chocolate made with Trickling Springs milk and house-made marshmallows.

Dangerously Delicious Pies
Grab a buddy and head to H Street for a $20 deal that includes two savory pies/quiches, two sweets, and two drinks.

DGS Delicatessen
Come for all day happy hour prices on drinks, stay for matzoh ball soup.

Eat the Rich
Fresh off a trip to Mexico, Derek Brown plans to serve up hot mezcal drinks between 5 and 7.

Food Wine & Co.
Lunch specials include a grilled lamb wrap and gingered carrot-coconut soup for $14, and a hot chocolate for an additional $2.

Granville Moore’s
A hearty sandwich special involves a quarter pound of house-made pastrami on rye with dijon, Swiss, and slaw.

Jack Rose
It’s happy hour all night when it comes to hot cocktails, like whiskey cider, mulled wine, and the tea-infused “hot chai way to hell.” All are $8.

NoPa Kitchen + Bar
Head over for all day regular happy hour, plus 20-percent off all drinks.

Osteria Morini
All-day happy hour alert! Head to this new Navy Yard spot for seven $7 bar snacks and $5 beers from 11:30 until close.

Ovvio Osteria
Half-price margherita pizzas are on offer, either to eat at the Merrifield spot or carry out.

Piola DC
Buy any pizza and beer and get a second brew for $1.

Pizzeria Orso
Kids eat free all day, plus a deal for all: buy-one-get-one-free pizzas.

The Pug
Doors open at 11 am for all you thirsty H Streeters.

Rockvillians, take note: all-day happy hour drink prices are in affect, and open mic night starts at 8.

Rappahannock Oyster Bar
Another Union Market spot pours warm beverages. In this case, mulled wine (perfect alongside oyster chowder).

Shaw’s Tavern
Head in for a free mimosa between 11 and 3. Later you’ll find half-price burgers from 5 on, and two-for-one drafts after 7.

The Source
Half-price dumplings and $10 speciality cocktails are on offer, plus you can watch the snow fall from the window-walled room.

Trummer’s on Main
Those in the Clifton, Virginia environs will find half-off on all bar food from 8:30 to 9:30.

A long list of $5 specials includes 20 wines by the glass, beers, bar snacks, a mugs of brandy-spiked mulled wine. The extended happy hour lasts all night.
