DC-Area Businesses Are Offering Deals for Federal Workers and Contractors

Unwind in a free yoga class—or with a discounted beer.

It’s been a tough month for federal workers and contractors, and local businesses around DC are stepping up to help. Here are specials and discounts for federal employees past and present, plus opportunities for others to help their neighbors. We’ll keep adding to this list, so check back for updates.

 

Georgetown University – Graduate School of Arts & Sciences

3520 Prospect St., NW

Current and former federal employees can receive a 10% scholarship on 2025-2026 master’s degree programs at Georgetown. The application fee has been waived, and the deadline to apply was extended to May 1. Your application must include proof of current or former federal employment. Find more details here. George Mason University’s College of Visual and Performing Arts

4373 Mason Pond Dr., Fairfax; 10960 George Mason Cir., Manassas

The college is offering recently laid-off federal employees and contractors free tickets to a lineup of performances. Shows run until May and take place at the Fairfax campus and the Manassas Science and Technology campus. To snag tickets, call the venue box office or show up in-person; you’ll be asked to confirm your former government agency and date of termination. Depending on the show, you can receive up to two or four tickets. See a full list of shows here.
 

Fairfax County Animal Shelter

8875 Lorton Rd., Lorton

This Fairfax animal shelter is partnering with Fort Hunt Yoga to host a free kitten yoga session on March 22 for current and former federal workers in need of relaxation. Register online.

 

Balance Gym

2401 M St., NW; 214 D St., SE

Recently laid-off federal workers can receive one free month of membership at the gym in Foggy Bottom and Capitol Hill. To get the deal, email info@balancegym.com and let them know which DC gym you’d like to join.
