Along with her abiding concern for patients, Dr. Mullaney’s dedication to craft represents a recurring theme seen from the start of a distinguished dental career. Dr. Mullaney graduated from the Medical College of Virginia (MCV) School of Dentistry in Richmond, Virginia, in 1987. The United States Navy successfully recruited Dr. Mullaney, and subsequently, after completing the Officer Indoctrination School in Newport, Rhode Island, Dr. Mullaney was commissioned as a Naval Dental Officer in the United States Navy Dental Corps. The Navy then selected Dr. Mullaney for their prestigious General Practice Residency (GPR) in dentistry, with hospital-based postgraduate training at the Naval Hospital in San Diego, California. This rigorous, one-year residency emphasized comprehensive dentistry and included exposure to each dental specialty, along with four weeks spent in both Anesthesia and Emergency Medicine. The Navy designed rotations to allow Dr. Mullaney to work one-on-one with board-certified specialists throughout the arduous year, and propelled Dr. Mullaney’s educational and practitioner experience to the next level beyond dental school.
After completing her GPR, Dr. Mullaney was stationed at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, in support of the United States Marine Corps – either “in-garrison” (at the Camp) or in the field, during maneuvers and exercises alike. From Camp Lejeune, Dr. Mullaney was assigned to the naval base at Philadelphia. There, Dr. Mullaney concluded her six years of active duty in the Navy, having earned recognition, accolades and medals for exemplary service to country and significant contributions to Naval and Marine dental health. Dr. Mullaney then settled in Old Town Alexandria, in 1993, and ultimately opened her own dental practice in Old Town (and now her and her family’s hometown).
Alongside her skilled staff, Dr. Mullaney faithfully continues professional education and training. She has completed advanced training through the Dawson Academy, the Hornbrook Group, the Seattle Study Club, and other implant and dental study clubs. Her guiding principle remains staying abreast of and well-versed in the very latest dentistry techniques and technology. She abundantly demonstrated her passion and unceasing dedication to superlative dentistry, when she earned a Fellowship Award from Academy of General Dentistry (FAGD).
