John Essepian III, MD, has been serving Northern Virginia for almost 30 years and has performed over 30,000 surgeries and procedures. Educated at Georgetown University and Johns Hopkins, he is board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology. Dr. Essepian is a pioneer in ophthalmology in Northern Virginia as the first to perform partial thickness corneal transplants (DSAEK) and laser-assisted cataract surgery in Northern Virginia. Dr. Essepian is dedicated to both continuing education so as to provide the best and most up to date care to his patients as well as teaching his methods, to that end he has authored more than 50 scientific publications and presentations, appeared in TIME magazine for his advancement of LASIK procedures, and consulted with the United States Military on refractive surgery. He has served as president of Northern Virginia Academy of Ophthalmology and is co-Medical Director of Northern Virginia Eye Surgery Center. Named one of the area’s top doctors by numerous peer reviewed publications year after year, Dr. Essepian is an accomplished corneal specialist and surgeon.
