For Redskins fans, the Hall of Fame weekend was a chance to relive great memories. They got a chance to cheer for Darrell Green and Art Monk and remember the days when the Redskins were winning Super Bowls.
Those golden days are becoming a distant memory. The team has won only two playoff games since Joe Gibbs retired the first time in 1992. Even Gibbs couldn’t recapture the magic his second time here.
And now owner Dan Snyder has passed on big-name coaches like Bill Cowher and hired an untested one in Jim Zorn. Will Snyder give Zorn the time to make quarterback Jason Campbell a star and build the Redskins into a winner?
Let’s look at how Zorn’s first season is likely to play out:
Giants 31, Redskins 16—The Redskins play the NFL defending champions on the road in the Thursday-night opener and move the ball but can’t score inside the 20.
Saints 28, Redskins 24—In their home opener, the Redskins knock Saints quarterback Drew Brees out of the game but lose late to a Saints rally led by Mark Brunell.
Redskins 28, Cardinals 17—The Redskins own the Cardinals—they’ve beaten them six in a row. Make it seven as Jason Taylor sacks Matt Leinart three times.
Cowboys 35, Redskins 24—Jessica Simpson cheers on Tony Romo as he throws for four TDs.
Eagles 17, Redskins 14—Donovan McNabb outduels Campbell in a game dominated by the defenses.
Redskins 27, Rams 16—Clinton Portis shreds the Rams’ defense for 154 yards, and the Zorn offense begins to gel.
Redskins 30, Browns 17—Campbell has a big game against a weak Browns defense.
Redskins 31, Lions 17—The Redskins almost never lose to Detroit. Campbell hits Santana Moss for two late TDs.
Redskins 20, Steelers 14—These aren’t the Bill Cowher Steelers as Portis rumbles for two TDs.
Redskins 30, Cowboys 27—Dallas comes to FedEx Field for a Sunday-night game. With Tom Cruise and the President-elect in the owner’s box, the Redskins shock the Cowboys in overtime.
Seahawks 20, Redskins 17—The Redskins have lost playoff games in their last two visits to Seattle. More of the same.
Giants 31, Redskins 27—The Skins’ D can’t stop Eli Manning.
Redskins 21, Ravens 10—The Redskins bury the Ravens, and Snyder buys crab cakes for everyone.
Redskins 24, Bengals 20—The Redskins stick a sock in Chad Johnson’s mouth.
Eagles 20, Redskins 14—Seventh loss ends their playoff hopes as Campbell is picked off three times.
Redskins 30, 49ers 17—Wait till next year. The Redskins finish at 9–7, and fans begin to ask when Colt Brennan is going to play.
What's your prediction for the Redskins' record this season? Sound off in the comments!
