Welcome to round one of Wing Wars! We selected 32 local chicken wing destinations and randomly drew numbers to create this March Madness–style bracket. Every day on the Best Bites Blog, we’ll ask you to vote for which bars and restaurants should move on to the sweet 16. We’ll be posting two bouts a day during round one, so check back for updates. Voting will close at midnight of the day the posts are published.
Afternoon, wing lovers. Friday’s competitions yielded some interesting results. BonChon pretty much killed it, advancing to round two with a definitive lead over Comet Ping Pong. In the second round, however, there was a tie between William Jeffrey’s Tavern and Wing Hub. That means you have another chance to vote—we’ll keep the poll open through 5 PM today.
Meanwhile, Adams Morgan barbecue, beer, and bourbon spot Smoke & Barrel, which serves up a larger wing than we’re used to, is up against Duffy’s Irish Pub. Duffy’s is another one of those places with a loyal flock of wing fans, but Smoke & Barrel’s barbecued appendages are pretty tasty too. It’s anybody’s game, so tell us which spot you think should fly into the sweet 16.
