We’re at the brink of the tax part in “death and taxes,” and while coping with the
IRS’ Monday deadline may make you feel as grim as the reaper, there are businesses
that want to offer life-affirming cheer—in the form of promotions. Okay, they also
want whatever money you have left after satisfying Uncle Sam, or the money you get
refunded, but nonetheless, a deal is a deal.
A few tax day promotions of note:
BLT Steak is offering 50 percent off—yes, half off—on all cocktails, beer, and wine
at lunch and dinner on Monday, and by all they do mean everything, from premium bourbons
and other top-shelf spirits to fine Champagnes. The lunch deal runs from 11:30 AM
to 2:30 PM and dinner from 5:30 to 10:30.
Jack Rose Dining Saloon has free whiskey Monday from 5 to 7 PM. Not all whiskey, but
a brand called English Whisky Company, from the St. George’s Distillery in Norfolk,
England. Bartenders will pour tastings of classic and peated single malt and classic
and peated cask-strength during the tax day happy hour.
Carvel is offering a Tax Day promotion to ice cream and Oreo lovers who like their
page on Facebook. The deal runs Saturday through Monday
and offers a discount on an 18-pack of Carvel’s Lil’ Oreo Rounders, reducing the price
from $13.99 to $10.40.
Marriott wants to woo locals in search of a staycation or an option for visiting
family and friends. They are offering a 25 percent discount at its DC hotels, including the JW Marriott and the Renaissance, for reservations made by April
22 for weekend stays from the beginning of May until a week after Labor Day. To book
go to Marriott’s website and use the promo code SPJ.
The Four Seasons Hotel in Georgetown is offering a tax headache recovery discount of 20 percent off any massage in its spa from Monday, April 15, through Friday, April 19, from 9 AM to 9 PM. Call 202-342-0444 and mention “Tax Break Special” when making the appointment.
The Palm restaurants in Washington on 19th Street, Northwest, and at Tysons Corner have a “tax day relief” deal that offers a so-called “prime bite” free with the purchase of a beverage at the bar on Monday. These bites include crab cakes and beef sliders. The required coupon is available online.
