Dirt Cheap Eats 2008: Buzz

Laptoppers love this bright bakery/lounge decorated with vintage baking tools and filled with leather club chairs. But they’re not here only for the free wi-fi. Pastry chef Josh Short’s chocolate-filled “bumblebee” cupcakes, bacon-stuffed brioches, and vanilla marshmallows are some of the best indulgences around.

On the savory side is a new line of panini—conceived by charcuterie aficionado Nathan Anda—that includes barbecue pork with slaw and a rosemary-scented porchetta with pumpkin butter. Depending on the time of day, you’ll find cups brimming with Illy lattes or Grand Marnier–spiked coffee. Open daily 6 am to midnight.
