The Pizza Pool: Ella’s Wood Fired Pizza vs. Matchbox

We're asking you to vote on Washington's best pizza. Here's today's face-off.

Who makes the best pizza in Washington? You tell us! We're asking you to vote in the first Washingtonian.com Pizza Pool, a brackets-style contest that will narrow 32 pizzas to one winner. For a refresher on how the brackets will work, head here.

To see today's match up, check below.

Ella's Wood Fired Pizza: Nearly 20 wood-fired pies are offered on this Penn Quarter spot's menu, including specialty combos such as the Lombardi (caramelized onions, gorgonzola, and rosemary) and the Polpotini (meatballs, leeks, and parmesan).

Matchbox: Brick-oven pizzas such as the spicy fire-and-smoke—made with chipotle-spiked tomato sauce and smoked gouda—and classic sausage-and-onion keep the lines at these Penn Quarter and Capitol Hill restaurants spilling out of the door.

Did you know? If you click the links of each of the restaurants' names, you can leave your own review of their pizza at that page!

This poll will stay open until noon on Friday.

*To help keep this contest fair, we’ve elected to use an IP address-based poll. This means that if you are voting from an office or network setting, not everybody will be able to vote. We apologize for the inconvenience, but we hope you’ll encourage coworkers to vote from their home computers.
